Mustang of the Week: Ellie Mraz

Ellie Mraz (Class IV) of Girl’s Varsity Track and Field has been selected as May’s first female Mustang of the Week! After coming off two impressive seasons with the girls varsity cross country and swim teams, Ellie tackled her first season of track with determination and a positive spirit. Since the end of March, Mraz has been putting in outstanding work at practice and at meets, proving herself a key component to the team’s impressive record of 4-1. Largely in part to Mraz, the Girl’s Track and Field team is undefeated in the ISL except for one meet against Thayer.

Mraz contributed largely to the team’s success at both ISL’s and New England’s. At ISL’s, Mraz placed 5th in the 1500 meter, finishing as the first Freshman with an astonishing time of 5 minutes and 5 seconds, earning much needed points for the team. Later that day, Mraz also competed in the 3000 meter, placing seventh. Very few athletes can handle the physical and mental endurance competing in distance events requires, but Mraz handled both in the same day! This past weekend, she also competed in New England’s. The New England Track and Field Championship meet is arguably the biggest meet of the season, where Milton faces large schools like Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, Choate, and nearly ten other schools. Mraz travelled to Loomis Chaffee with the team and competed again in the 3000 meter where she ran her best time of the season of a blistering 10 minutes and 55 seconds. Mraz did not let the unfavorable conditions of rainy and chilly weather deter her from performing with her utmost effort, and it really paid off!

Not only is Mraz an impressive runner, she is a good teammate and friend to all. During practices, Mraz always has a smile on her face and is always motivating her teammates. When given the option, she always does the extra set without complaint and encourages everyone else to do so as well. Determined, hard working, energetic, and kind, Ellie Mraz really made a difference for the Milton girl’s Track and Field Team, both on and off the track.
