Shut the F**k up about the 2020 Elections

I used to be someone who enjoyed keeping up with the news. In fact, I remember the days in which I would stay up with my grandfather at night just to see Anderson Cooper on CNN. We watched interesting documentaries on Syria’s civil war, reports about China’s growing military strength, and countless investigations into North Korea. I loved every single bit of it. But then January of 2015 arrived, and he began covering the 2016 presidential election. I remember the frustration building inside of me as I watched Anderson Cooper report what seemed like the same thing over and over again, every single evening. Eventually, I simply stopped watching the news until after the elections.

Unfortunately, the same shift took place this January. Anderson Cooper, Lester Holt, and all the other anchors began their stupid blabbering about the 2020 elections. The news of potential candidates has even polluted my lovely Apple News feed. It seems like the media doesn’t care anymore about more important events: the crisis in Venezuela or the recent airliner crash in Houston. I also just don’t see the point in beginning this debate so early—according to the Hill, incumbent presidents have won 15 out of the last 20 re-elections. They also suggest that losing the midterms has little correlation with a re-election. Donald Trump has also managed to grow the economy and lower unemployment quite a bit. Simply put, the odds are in Donald Trump’s favor in 2020.

In addition, remember that there are 12 democrats that have already officially announced their campaign, although that number will likely double in the next few months as more people run. By the time the primaries are a few months away, most of these candidates will have dropped out. So, why even gossip about people who will accomplish nothing?

Finally, I just hate hearing people debate politics. Why? Well, in this country, politicians have done a great job replacing Kim Kardashian’s role. Politics have become the new type of entertainment, and both parties, Republicans and Democrats, have created this unfortunate reality. Take, for example, Elizabeth Warren’s decision to publicize her DNA. Take, for example, every single one of Donald Trump’s tweets since assuming office. So please, shut up about the 2020 elections until the summer of next year.
