Farewell to Ms. Aldins
By Vivienne Mockenhaupt ’27
As the school year comes to a close, we must bid farewell to Ms. Liga Aldins, a long-term substitute in the Modern Languages Department. Ms. Aldins, who has covered sections of Spanish 1, 3, 3 Honors, and 4 in her two years at Milton, looks forward to re-entering retirement.
Prior to her time at Milton, Ms. Aldins served as the head of the language department at the Park School in Brookline, where she taught French and Spanish and ran exchange trips for eighth grade students as well. Moving to high school, she says that she “really [enjoys] working with high schoolers” and that Milton students are “full of good energy.” In general, Ms. Aldin states that she loves “being with young people… joking with them and teaching them new things and sharing [her] love of languages and travel… they realize there’s a big, big world out there that they can connect with.”
Outside of Milton, she has “had a side career as a musician,” having sung classical music for much of her life, and has immersed herself in Latvian culture, being an immigrant from Latvia whose family had escaped Soviet rule and remains “very attached to [her] cultural identity.” In the coming years, Ms. Aldins would like to return to retirement, go to concerts, “read, garden, travel,” and see her loved ones.
To Ms. Aldins, Milton students are deeply grateful for the work you’ve done. Thank you, and we wish you all the best going forward.
